The festival has undergone a make-over this year, with its competition section opening up to entries from Hollywood and Europe, and the introduction of two new awards for Best Actor and Actress. "The prize money will go upto USD 200,000 this year and that is a amount bigger than what is offered at many prestigious festivals like Berlin," said S M Khan, Director, Directorate of Film Festivals (DFF).
"While there were three main awards till last year, Best Film, Best Director and Special Jury Award, we have added two more for Best Actor and Best Actress this year," added Khan.
The two new categories will each come with a Silver Peacock Trophy and a cash prize of Rs 1 million. The festival's top prize, the Golden Peacock, carries along with it a cash prize of Rs 4 million. The Silver Peacock award for the Best Director comes along with a cash prize of Rs 1.5 million cash prize, while the Special Jury award is also accompanied by a cash prize of Rs 1.5 million.
